What is Barista Expressen?
Barista Expressen is a loose collection of resources, information and recipes for coffee nerds. It is split into two sections - General Information and Resources and Specific Information and Resources ... at least for now. I am notorious for documenting everything and this is just my outlet for coffee. What is on (or will be) on this page is collected over many, many years - discussions, reading etc, I have just collected it in a private notebook instead of somewhere publically accessible.
This page is a constant work in progress - I am starting with something, not worrying if is perfect or not. I have some ideas of what I want to do and how I want it to work, but I will wait and see how I (and anyone else) uses this page and adapt along the way. How it is today, is most likely not how it will be tomorrow... or the day after that.
Of course the content is biased towards what I have and want... but read the next section about how to fix that :)
Section 1 - General Information and Resources
This section contains brew guides, recipes etc which might be of interest to anyone.
I have been writing down my recipes for quite some time and wanted a place to store them for easy reference later. Whilst lurking in the James Hoffmann discord though I noticed a lot of people sharing recipes (and in turn I also went looking for recipes), so I created this section.
The Recipes and information are written in Markdown, in a public GitHub repository, thus anyone is free to contribute, or edit (clone the repo, make a change and send me a Pull Request). You can click the "GitHub" link in the top-right-hand corner to find your way to the repo.
I have no specific plans - I assume the way this is all structured will change over time, if you have an idea you can send me a message in the James Hoffmann discord (Patreon's only), or you can raise an issue in the repo. If no one ends up using or contributing to this project then it will just become my private collection.. but I'll give it a go as a public resource first.
Section 2 - Specific Information and Resources
This section collects specific information regarding my setup. Basically me documenting my journey, and things learned. It is probably of zero use to anyone else other than me, but have a browse through if you feel like it!
Why is it called Barista Expressen?
It's a stupid pun... I happen to live in Sweden, and one of our major newspapers is called Expressen. Coupled with my Espresso machine being a Barista Express I couldn't help myself.
Where did this come from?
I like to document everything, I find the process invaluable for solidifying my own understanding but it also ends up with inspiring me in different directions as well - pushing me to ask more questions and learn more. The idea of a coffee page has been bouncing around my head for many years (since coffee really became a hobby) - I have ideas for what I want to do... but I will leave that for some other time.. right now i'll focus on the basics of getting something published instead of trying to make it perfect from the start.
